McKenzie Fire District

The McKenzie Rural Fire Protection District consists of 5 fire stations manned by volunteers and a small career staff.

The five stations handle emergencies from the Springfield city limits to milepost 39.5 on the McKenzie Highway.

The stations have been strategically placed throughout the District to provide the quickest and most efficient response to emergencies.

Fire Stations

Station One is located on McKenzie Highway at milepost 12, in Walterville. It also serves as the District Administrative Offices.

Station Two is located on Camp Creek Road, milepost 5.

Station Three is located in Leaburg, next to the Leaburg Store, at exactly milepost 20.

Station Four is located on McKenzie Highway in Vida near milepost 26.

Station Five is located on McKenzie Highway in Nimrod near milepost 32.

Each station responds to emergencies in their "response" area portion of the district.

When an emergency happens within the District, the volunteers are dispatched to their station by way of a countywide paging system. The volunteers then respond with the appropriate apparatus and mitigate the emergency.

Afterwards, they return to the station and make the apparatus ready to respond to the next emergency.

Fire Fighters

Our volunteers are McKenzie Valley citizens who live inside the Fire District.

Besides having a caring heart and a willingness to share their time, volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and be able to pass a general physical agility test.

The McKenzie Rural Fire District requires new volunteers to attend a Recruit Academy to become trained in fire and EMS operations before he or she can respond on a call.

The District holds weekly training drill. Both Tuesday morning and Wednesday evening drill times are available. 75% attendance at drills is required.

These training drills expand the volunteers' skills and teach techniques in extrication, fire fighting, and provide an opportunity for members to learn more about their community.

Volunteer Fire Fighters of the Fire District fight fires, respond to MVA's, and medical emergencies.

Public Educators

Volunteer Public Educators of the Fire District present public fire prevention education and activities to schools and community groups.

Boosters

Volunteer Boosters are a group of community members who support the District through fund raising, provide refreshments on extended alarms, and organize the Annual Award Dinner.
