Blue River Ranger District

From Blue River travel east 3.5 miles on Highway 126, turn right unto USFS Rd. #19 (Aufderheide National Scenic Byway) and proceed 12 miles south. Turn right unto USFS Rd. #1980, follow 1980 uphill for 7.3 miles to the junction with USFS Rd. #1980-247. Follow this road for 2 miles to an old clear-cut unit and the trailhead.

This trail begins at an elevation of 5,200 feet and ends at 4,090 feet after traveling through old Indian campgrounds and patches of huckleberries. The unmanned Indian Ridge lookout can be seen from the trail. Some spots offer breathtaking views of surrounding mountains. The trail mainly goes through 2 small bear grass meadows and second growth Douglas-fir.
