Blue River Ranger District
Take Hwy. 126 3.5 miles east from Blue River and turn right on USFS
Rd. #19 (Aufderheide National Scenic Byway). Travel 26 miles and turn right
into the Box Canyon Horse Camp. The trailhead for Grasshopper Trail #3569
is to the right. The junction with the Chucksney Mountain Trail is a 0.5
mile hike up the Grasshopper Trail.
Starting at an elevation of 4,160 feet, the Chucksney Trail climbs to
5,760 feet over 4 miles and loops back to the Grasshopper Trail and Box
Canyon.. The Chucksney Mountain Trail goes through large meadows to the
top of Chucksney Mountain for a view of the South Fork of the McKenzie
River drainage and the Three Sisters Mountains.
