Wolf Rock Monolith
To reach this dramatic outcropping you'll be traveling a considerable distance over gravel logging roads. Be sure your vehicle and its tires are in good condition. From Hwy. 126 at milepost 44.3, turn onto USFS Rd. #15. Travel to the upper end of Blue River reservoir, passing by Mona Campground and the H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest. Turn right at the "T" in the road and continue on several more miles until an unmistakable rock outcropping appears around a bend.
Wolf Rock is reportedly the largest monolith in the state of Oregon, rising from an elevation of less than 3,600 feet at its base to over 4,500 feet. It's magnificent bulk, color, and texture provide a picture of grandeur as it towers above the surrounding forest.
There are existing roads and clear-cut units around the base of the monolith. A special interest area here encompasses 130 acres.
