Proxy Waterfalls
Located at milepost 64 on Highway 242 is a newly enlarged parking area which accesses the trail leading to these two spectacular waterfalls. A 0.5 mile trail takes hikers across several lava flows which originated from Collier Cone on the flank of the North Sister.
The upper waterfall empties into a shallow pool with no apparent outlet. A heavy blanket of fir needles has covered the streambed's porous lava base and allows the clear water to drain beneath its calm, reflective surface.
A gently sloping pathway through the forest ends at the cascading curtains of the lower falls.
Both drop approximately 200 feet over sheer, moss covered cliffs.
